HI all been a while since the last entry, which was in Vienna. Well we headed off from Vienna with Prague on our mind. It is only 310kms and the way that we had been knocking out the KMs that number could have been done in two hard days...That is what we thought, and things change. firstly we had to navigate our way out of the city of Vienna on the bikes. lucky enough for us we managed to ask the right man for help.. Hans was his name and what a guy he turned out to be.. Hans has lived in Vienna for 67 years and was also on his bike. The long and short of it he road with us all the way out of town and about 20kms out of his way just to make sure that we were on our way safely. then to top it off he very politely asks "excuse me but to you drink beer" Ben and I cracked up in unison and said only if forced but of course we could manage one. SO we stop off at a little pub on the side of the road and Hans orders us up two big beers. He then made his way back the way he had come. We were wrapped to have him along and I think he really enjoyed hanging out as well. Any way for the next few days we never seemed to get any where on the map towards Prague. We would get lost one day and spend most of our day back tracking, another day we stopped off to play golf at this sweet course in Austria.(as you do when you are on a bike tour) looked pritty funny as we rocked up to this nice course on our bikes and asked if we could rent some clubs and play some golf. We also met the two pros at the course who were both from Scotland. Mark and John. we had a good laugh with them and John hung around with us and bought ben and I a beer each, as we ate lunch in what turned out to be the best golf restaurant in Austria for the last 3 years and was one of the best in the country. (another thing you do while on a bike tour, eat at one of the best restaurants in the country) from there it was time to head on and find a place to crash as the weather had taken a huge turn............ I made the comment that HUEY had NOTHING and the next thing we knew we were stuck in the tent for two nights straight. the rain was not as heavy as it was in Hungary but it never let up and he wind was coming straight off the Austrian alps and freezing. so it was time for some reading, writing, listening to music and talking shit to each other about solving the worlds problems. While we both enjoyed a day off we were eager to get back out side and on the bikes the next day even though we were greeted to a bitter cold wind and overcast day. after a few tough days grinding it out in the wind and cold we have finally made it to Prague. A fantastic city that had us beat on how we were to get into the city as we got kicked off the highway by the police (you big trouble!!! BIg trouble)what ever mate this was the safest road we had been on comming into a bit city and they were kicking us off it I thought he was going to fine us for a while but we played the dumb tourist well and finnaly it was agreed that we just get off at the first exit. we managed to zig zag our way into the outer suburbs on some small roads. After asking several people for directions to the city center and getting no positive response, we finally hit some luck with a guy called Paul. Paul said we could go on the subway with him as it is nearly impossible to explain how to get there from where we were and especially on the bikes. IT was really getting late and we decided to go for it.. Problem was we had no CZECH money just euros (happens when you sleep in the trees) so Paul said no problem and bought us our tickets as well and he took us all the way to where we needed to go.. Great fella. THe long and short of it is what was going to take us 2-3 days turned out taking 6 days,if we were workers you might say we were doing Gentlemans hours. still a great time and just rolling with the waves of destiny is great fun. SO now here I am in Prague had a few days looking around.. it is a fantastic city, and cheap compared to most other big cities. As for me though give me my tent in the woods, a camp stove dinner finished off with a hot chocolate and I am a happy camper... hope eveyone is doing well around the globe. later sammy.
