It was a wet and early start to our long day leaving Liepāja, bound once more for the capital.
Our time in Latvia was drawing to and end.

Elise met us near the bus station and we dropped our belongings and enjoyed a delicious brunch before setting off together to soak in the aura of antiquity in the quaint village of Cēsis. This stunning little medieval town takes its roots back to 1206, home to what remains of a time-worn Castle that bares testimony to former days of glory, still very much being unlocked beneath the time-capturing earth.
To further enrich the history-laden atmosphere, we freely explored the wonder of days past equipped with candle-lit lanterns. From dungeon to turret tops - there were winding narrow stone staircases to bring to light dark, hidden passage ways and the remnant of intricately designed rooms. It was amazing. Ones imagination came alive and captivated with legends of Robin Hood and the likes - enhanced by the enchanting array of autumn colours beginning to show in the surrounding trees. What a beautiful piece of country side...

Keeping in theme with our wonderful outing to Cēsis, Elise introduced us to the most incredibly authentic Medieval Restaurant in the heart of Old Town, Riga. The outside was decked with crested flags, old wagons and men in costume ... and as you wound down the rustic stairs, allowing your eyes to adjust to the dim, candle-lit rooms beneath, the inside came alive - totally captivating you with the perfect representation on every level of the experience.

We have had some really great opportunities over these past six weeks spent here in Latvia...
It has been very busy moving about from place to place but definitely an enriching experience - being stretched and challenged in many new areas...as well as making many new friends who have both inspired and blessed us.

...Farewell, Latvia...
