We arrived at the beach resort of Mui Ne and essentially didn't do much once we got there as our hotel had a lovely pool to cool off in and we read and swam for most of the day. You’ll notice I’m now saying 'hotel’ instead of ‘hostel’ as we’ve move up in the world and are staying in nice hotels now as they are so cheap and hostels don’t really exist here the way they do in other countries.  Oh well, we’ll just have to make do with swimming pools and toilet rolls folded into a point, such a hard life.

On our second day we were slightly more energetic and went for a bike ride to the nearby red sand dunes where we planned to sledge down on sheets of plastic that the local kids rent to you.  However when we weren’t happy with the extortionate prices they were quoting, one of the youngest threw sand in Steve’s eyes so there was no way we could peacefully carry on the negotiations.  Instead we ran down the dunes and I made the mistake of flopping down in the sand which is a bad idea if you’re still covered in sweat from a bike ride in the 38 degree heat.  We went to a café for a drink to cool down and I asked the owner if there was somewhere I could clean myself up so she indicated to the back door of the shop.  When I went out there I didn’t realize she was following me with a bucket of water which took me by surprise but did the trick when she threw it over me!

We detoured around the small down on the way back to the hotel and children came running out of their houses to wave and shout ‘hello’ at us, later collapsing in giggles when we responded.  The town is well known for its seafood and we took a break to watch the fishermen bobbing around in woven boats shaped like contact lenses which looked very dinky but rather unstable in the waves.  It was a lovely day rounded off with another dip in our pool while we planned the next leg of our trip to Dalat in the highlands where we could escape the heat momentarily.

Lots of Love,

Amy and Sand dune Steve
