So its been two weeks since Ive left home and Ive traveled 2865 miles so far! And yesterday was the day I traveled the most miles in one day..479 coming across South Dakota! As I mentioned yesterday I visited an old 1880 Town and the Badlands National Park. I arrived in the Rapid City area (Black Hills National Forest) just in time to talk to the Ranger for that District Office. Was able to find a "free" spot on Forest land and got it set up with time to spare. So I decide to go ahead and checkout Mount Rushmore and to catch the evening lighting show. Ive gotta tell you Ive always wanted to go there and I am sooooo glad I did...it was amazing! It was very inspiring and moving. I hiked around a bit took some pics and the show started at 9:15pm. A brief talk by a Park Ranger followed by a 20 minute movie telling about each President. As it came to a close to entire mountain side and faces of the Presidents were lit up by a bright light..incredible and awesome! A must see for everyone if you can. So today after I finish my post and other research for future places Im visiting. I am going shopping to re-stock and then heading up north a bit to find another free site. This one Im hoping for is really at a high altitude and VERY VERY remote. The Ranger told me that Mountain Lions are in the area and to be extremely alert! Sweet! So then its off to the famous western town of Deadwood tonight and/or tomorrow.
