Bungalow Bay Koala Sanctuary

Drove up to Townsville where we got a ferry across to Magnetic Island. Really gorgeous beaches (as always) and nice and chilled its also a haven for wildlife. We experienced a toad race here in the evening which was interesting. The aussies basically hate cane toads as they pretty much invaded the country without permission, so they had all these fat ugly toads dressed up in different coloured tutu's and everyone betting on which one would hop first to the finish line!

We also went to Bungalow Bay Koala Sanctuary while we were here which was great! We had a guide that took us round telling us interesting facts about all the animals and we got to hold a crocodile!  Just a little baby one it felt quite cool as its belly was really soft and smooth. Also a blue-tongued lizard which was pretty ugly with a massive bright blue tongue (you'd never have guessed!) and a python!! It was massive and kept twisting and coiling himself round my neck and arms in true snakey style. There was a white cockatoo bird too that had a nice hairdo.

But the best bit was obviously the koala. He was called Squirt and I wanted to take him hime with me! Very cute and incredibly sweet just lazing about on his branch and then swiping to get some leaves. I got to hold him too and he was suprisingly heavy but sooooo soft and cuddly (although apparently they will bite/claw at you if you try and get too friendly) so he just sat there in my arms, contentedly chewing a tasty eucaluptus leaf.

A nice suprise when we left and were wandering in the bush a little we spotted a wild koala up a tree!! Jump hanging about, sat on a branch clinging to the trunk. I wish we had them at home!
