After waking up we headed out to the bus station to get a bus into Bled, a small town in Slovenia just over an hour from Ljubljana. The journey itself was very scenic going through plenty of fields n mountains.

We then arrived and had a bit of a mission trying to find the accommodation we had booked- Andrea's home, as we had no map or directions but wandered through some beautiful little 'roads' until we found it.

Once checked in our host kindly sat us down with maps and gave us an in depth presentation of what was where, what we should see and do etc during our time here.

So thoroughly inspired n with a lot to cram in we set off in search of the lake. Only about a 5 minute walk and we were at the edge of the lake with jaw dropping sights. A stunningly vivid turquoise/emerald colour lake surrounded by hills and mountains covered in deep green foliage. And on one side a steep cliff juts out of the green slope majestically crowning a beautiful castle on the top. Absolutely breath taking. There's also an island in the middle of the lake with a big church on it to add to the beauty. You can get boat rides out to it or hire your own to row across, but we might swim over.

After taking some snaps (which do not do any justice to the scene before our eyes) we hunted out 'The Place' to get the best traditional Bled cream cake our host had so passionately described for us. And we were not disappointed. On a terrace with fantastic views over the lake and castle we ordered up 2 of the delicacies and yuuuummy! I'm not usually a fan of creamy things (excluding ice cream or really chocolaty things obviously) but this was truly scrumptious!!! Always pleased to sample the local cuisine :D

We then began the walk around the lake (to walk off the huge cake we'd just gobbled up) It's a 6.5km round trip and perfect for taking in all the views. The lake itself is crystal clear and we could regularly spot big fish or rocks on the bottom and in places it was so blue it didn't look real.

Far too inviting for a pair of water babies so we could resist no longer and got in for a good swim. A pleasantly refreshing temperature and so clear we could see the bottom for ages.

We then completed the lap of the lake and climbed up the steep cliff side up to the castle. Unfortunately you have to pay to get in (could of told us that at the bottom!) and we are stingy but we may go back again.

Bellies rumbling it was dinner time so went for a pizza place on a terrace overlooking the lake. Then got a great sunset and some even better ice cream!!! All in all a pretty fab day :)
