What I did
Woke up in a bed!!! Amazing!!
Had a picnic breakfast in our room before heading out to see the city. Really lovely cobbledy streets and a big river running through the old town. Lots of grand looking buildings with spires n stuff and then a view up to the castle on a hill above the city.
We hiked up to the top of the hill for great views across the town and then wandered the castle grounds. Found a canon to play with and climbed up some of the towers you were allowed to.
Then back down in the city it was Simons coffee time so we headed into a random looking cafe. I ordered a hot chocolate and OMG!!! It was a PROPER hot chocolate so thick that I couldn't really drink it- had to eat it with a spoon (which was appropriately shovel shaped) amazing.
Then a further stroll through the streets until we came to the edge of a park. Looking on a map it showed that it was HUGE with mountains n lakes etc in it (think its kinda a national park) so would be cool to explore (and I also read somewhere that there are brown bears in Slovenia so quite hopeful that I might stumble upon one... Although as Simon pointed out, maybe not in the city park.) But we were hungry so decided to get food n come back after.
Went to a tiny cute little cafe n our lunch came to 3.90 euros!!! That was for a massive seedy flatbread thing n a meat burek. Substantial tasty food n bargain price! So then decided to explore the national park but get to it from walking along the river.
Walked for ages along river n then cut across to where the park should have started but couldn't find it so kept walking. Anyway to cut a long story short we probably waked about 4 miles in a massive loop through loads of residential areas and random places but never quite came across the park. A nice walk though.
Time for a rest so back to the room for a bit before heading out again for dinner. Now I was once told that you can get the Best pizzas in Slovenia. Apparently the Italians all come to Slovenia for their pizza treats. So found a little restaurant by the river n ordered pizza.
And it was good :) very satisfied it was then a short stroll back to our room as trying to make the most of having some space, a proper roof and most importantly; a comfy bed with a pillow!!
