It all began with a few tasty pancakes (sometimes cooked on a super stove on the beach or at Hengistbury Head) and some idle discussions as to the best pancake combinations and fillings/toppers. Then one day at the Hungry Hiker, over a cup of coffee (or in my case; hot chocolate), the Behemoth blue print was designed.
This was to be a pancake stack so delicious that it makes your taste buds scream for more, and so massive that no human stomach should ever be able to accept all of it. It was to be born into an epic eating challenge to rival that of contenders on Man vs Food. One that only the foolish would even contemplate, the bravest would dare to attempt; and only a superhuman would actually complete. The Behemoth was born.
And so from the original design scribbled on a scrap of paper, on the day of all days, the Behemoth was to be created in its full glory. The ingredients were gathered and prepared, and then the monster stack was assembled.
First up, a 32cm American style pancake measuring 0.5inch thick (ingredients: flour, sugar, eggs and milk), topped with a generous spread of nutella and a layer of sliced bananas (2 whole bananas in total).
Next up is a second 32cm pancake 0.5 inches thick, again spread with thick nutella but this time complimented with beautifully arranged sliced strawberries (a whole punnet load).
Following this, a third pancake is added. This is smothered with crunchy peanut butter (crucial for adding a salty savoury depth so as not to make it too sickly...) and then loaded with swirls of marshmallow fluff.
Finally, a fourth pancake is put in place coated with nutella and sprinkled with the finest chopped pistachios. All this then topped with the piece de la resistance, a whole 500ml tub of Ben & Jerry's is dolloped atop the stack.
Et voila. Grab a spoon!
AND SO 'THE LEGEND' HAS BEGUN.... WOULD YOU DARE TO ATTEMPT???
