Where I stayed
Duvedes camping
We found Loch Ness's long lost cousin here in the city of Östersund in the big lake called Storsjön. He is called Storsjöodjuret. Personally I think the one here in Östersund his parents must have taken the longer straw and ended up with a name like that! Yes there has been many sightings of a creature which has a head like a dragon with a body like a snake and a crocodile. And his length is anything between 4 to 14 mts. Or as a lady in Åre pointed out to us on the moose farm, that these creatures are simply a moose swimming in the lake. I think then the one in Scotland must have lost his way while camping!
Östersund is a beautiful city, we visited a rock nearby with the old Viking text on it and climbed up a tower for a better view of the city. Sweden is truly a beautiful country with many lakes and forests. I was curious to know how Finland looks, since it is known to be a country of one thousand lakes, there are many lakes here in Sweden and most of them, are open to swimming and as crazy as it sounds, we tried swimming in these lakes, even if it was meant for shower purposes. From there we drove to Frösön, which is an Island nearby and to get to the Island we had to cross a beautiful bridge. It was so nice and long that I decided to go back on it on foot and of course took Henrik with me against his wish. He is not very fund of walking, when you can cycle, or bike or have a quad bike or things like that. Anything with a speed faster than walking, but he doesn't run either! :)
The bridge was about 3 kms long and we took the scooter we had borrowed from Hasse with us. That was fun, and we decided that I would run and Henrik will push the scooter. Well it was fun until the scooter's back wheel just broke! We then had to walk and carry the scooter on our shoulders! I am sure Henrik hadn't seen this coming!
We had lunch near the lake, in the hope of spotting our half dragon, half snake friend. From there we drove to Åre and that night we decided to camp on a campsite. It was late, it was dark and it was cold and we needed a shower! The first campsite we came to was on the back loan of a family owned house, which worked out quite expensive and we decided that we would drive in the direction of the town of Åre and look for another one if we can, otherwise we will come back to the same one. We found another campsite called Duvedes camping. It was cheeper and he even reduced the price for us. The further up North you go the more expensive the camping sights are. Anything between 100-150 Kronor, which is about 10-15 Euros.
That night I had my first shower since we left. It was nice. And I wasn't to know that it was going to be my last shower for another week! They even had a sauna, which the Swedes are very much fond of. I tried it for about 5 minutes and felt very difficult to breath. Henrik told me that in Swedish tradition, they will have beer before the Sauna and while in the Sauna and then they will go out for a night out drinking more beer, or as the Swedes call it, Bärs!
