Where I stayed
Gordon and Mindy's guesthouse
A true highlight of our time in Salt Lake was the BBQ dinner we had at Alex and Magali’s house (another couple of friends we met in Maple). It was just like being at home, sitting outside, eating a delicious feast that the guys had prepared that day, including Australian lamb and wine that Alex had sourced (he'd overheard us saying at camp how much we miss our lamb) (Lee: It is still the best meal we've had in the US!). A big thank you to Mindy, Gordon, Alex and Magali for their wonderful hospitality
After a great couple of days, it was time to hit the road again. Next on the itinerary was Driggs, Idaho. From here, we spent several days checking out Jackson Hole, the Tetons and Yellowstone National Park. Jackson Hole was great and even though it was pretty touristy, I enjoyed walking the streets of a real-life old western town. I felt like I was on the set of Deadwood! (Lee: I also managed to find a camping espresso machine and some great coffee beans in Jackson Hole!)
Our day at Yellowstone was equally enjoyable. We spent about 8 hours driving around 250 miles across three states all in the search of crazy wildlife. All up, we saw three deer and one bison... not quite what we were hoping for, but we still had a ball. Perhaps we needed more "pick-a-nik baskets"? The geysers in Yellowstone are amazing. We spent a couple of hours at Old Faithful, walking the trails and checking out the awesome geo-thermal pools.
Although the skin on our fingers suffered somewhat from the lack of climbing, the break did us both the world of good. We both woke up on our last day in Driggs feeling totally refreshed and ready for our next climbing destination: Ten Sleep, Wyoming.
