Sam: The morning of 19 June saw us fly from Istanbul to London. London was a wonderful "break" for us both. We stayed at our dear friends' Sue and Matt's place and had such a relaxing couple of days. We felt like we were home and we really kicked-back and enjoyed the awesome company, home-cooking and break from being typical tourists. The first day we were there, we didn't leave the appartment - we had lots to catch up on and Lee had to acquaint himself with the Baby Gagia (Sue and Matt's espresso machine). That night, Sue cooked a wonderful dinner which featured salmon (something we have not had for a long time) and homemade strawberry tart. Delicious! (Lee: the berries here are amazing - they taste like lollies).

The next day was unreal. The sun was shining and the London "Taste" festival was being held at Regents Park, which is a short walk from Sue and Matt's place. We were all super-keen to sample the dishes from London's best chefs, so we packed the camera and set off for the day. The walk to the park was entertaining in itself, Lee was astounded at the range of expensive cars parked in the residential streets and couldn't stop taking photos of them all. He said he wanted to go to a filming of Top Gear while in the UK, but this was the best I could organise! Okay, so I've been to a few food festivals in Australia over the years, but this was so much bigger than anything I have been to before. It was extremely difficult deciding what to spend our "crowns" on... we sampled so many dishes, I lost count! By about 4pm, the four of us had eaten way too much food and had great difficulty picking our favourite restaurant. It was time for a nap! (Lee: It was all a lot more gourmet that I was expecting given the British food stereotypes.)

Monday was a great opportunity for us to catch up on some admin that we'd neglected over the past couple of weeks/months. We did some clothes washing, sent some things back home and I had a much-needed hair appointment (thanks Sal for the recommendation). While I was at the hairdressers, Lee explored the area of Paddington and found an indoor climbing gym. This kept him occupied while I had all the damage the Kalymnian salt water had caused to my hair repaired. We then had a very quiet evening back at the unit with Sue and her sister, Lisa.

The next day, we were both very sad to leave our friends. The "time-out" was exactly what we needed and it was just so wonderful to catch up with loved-ones again. It made me quite homesick to be honest. Sue, Matt - thank you for everything. And Lisa, we cannot thank you enough for giving us your bedroom for the three nights. It was much appreciated and it was great finally meeting you!

Mum on

Glad the UK provided more than expected - love the flowers and cars - in the food department they must have become increasingly cosmopolitan since I was there in 82 - when it was all spuds and glug veges and a special treat of wilks.

So glad you are enjoying London. Whata great place it is. Go to Harrods and visit the food court. It will blow you away. Best of all is the Ice Cream Bar.
Enjoy every moment and don't get too fat from all the lovely food.
