After leaving Asheville we werent really sure where we were heading next to spend the memorial long weekend. We had seen enough of cities for the time being and wanted to head somewhere we could relax and do some kayaking. We decided on Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee Georgia and luckily there was one room left at the Lodge.

What a surprise when we got there, it's a beautiful lakeside resort township that surrounds the majority of Lake Chatuge. There were huge RV's and mansions lining the banks of the lake all with private moorings and pontoons housing ski boats, jet ski's and fishing boats. The place was just unreal seeing all the holiday homes and its hard to understand how there can be so many Americans that just can just head off to their lake house for the weekend, or summer break.

We hired a kayak the next morning and spent the day paddling around the lake admiring the sights and getting house envy. All the college kids were out in their fancy wakeboard boats and riding jet skis tearing up the lake.

On Sunday we drove out to the Anna Ruby falls which were pretty amazing but crazy busy being a longweekend. On the way back to Hiawassee we started another hike to the High Shoals Water Falls but got caught by an unexpected thunder storm. The rain got really heavy and we were both just in t-shirts, but then the rain started to hurt and we realised it was hailing so we had to make a quick dash back to the car. Sitting in the car and absolutely drenched we realised that it wouldn't let up and we had to drive out before the steep tracks got washed out. Atleast we go to take our 'All American 4WD' off road.
