Where I stayed
It took us longer than I thought it would to get to the departure gate though, we got through customs fine, then hung around in the departure lounge for a bit looking at all the duty free things we couldn't afford to buy, and celeb spotting, I didn't see any this year though:-( (although would you really count the Black Eyed Peas anyway????) but before we could get to the actual gate, we had to go through another set of security that American Airways had set up! I'm pretty sure that some laws got violated... we were searched so thouroughly that we even had to take our coats and shoes off and empty out our hand luggage, Rach had to turn her camera on and prove it worked and she got things swabbed for god knows what, we think it was drugs as they put it in this little machine to get results before she was free to go... so I obviously don't look like a drug smuggler which is really good to know
I got slightly annoyed though because I realised that the passengers of USA origin didn't have to undergo this treatment!!! WTF!!! how is that fair??? they obvioulsly aren't gonna want to bomb their own country... pahahaha funny joke!
So once we had finally boarded the plane, sat at the back thankfully so no children were near us, like the Will Smith song says we were finally 'going to Miami'.
Flight wise it was pretty crap, it was really turbulant and I couldn't sleep and the food was rubbish. The landing was by far the worst I've ever had though, it must have been a trainee pilot or something as it was sooooo very bad. On the upsidde though, when we finally arrived, it was blazing sunshine and we got through immigration really quickly... well it was going to be, compared to my experience at LAX last year.
After grabbing our luggage and finding our way out to where the shuttle buses park we were finally heading to our hostel and for our first look at America.
The traffic was soooo bad,, and it wasn't even rush hour! but the weather was good and that was all that mattered. When we arrived at the hostel, we checked in and headed to our room, but we were both so tired that we just crashed out for a couple of hours which wasn't really good, as today is the only day we had to explore Miami - we leave for Orlando tomorrow :(
A few hours of sleep later and we were both ready to go, we had dinner at this little diner where Rach had pancakes and deided that by the time she left the states she would be able to eat a stack (4 pancakes) she only managed to eat 2!!! Once we had eaten we headed to look for South Beach, but walked in the wrong direction!!! lol but as it was already dark there wasn't really any point as when we did reach it, we couldn't actually see anything! We just took some other pictures and headed back to the hostel where we went to bed as we had to be up early!
Oh yeah, when we were wandering around Rachael heard her new saying.... it's fully gross though. We were walking behind a group of college age guys and they described a girl as "sweating" as in they were really hot! eeeewwwwww - Rach wants to use it all the time now though!
