Where I stayed
I had a whale of a time (whatever that means), met good people, well I also met a few weirdos - ahem Darren!!! - but it was mostly good people, I ate good food (on a backpackers budget - so noodles and soup), drank great wine (all locally produced and all stupidly cheap) and did everything that I wanted to do (spoilt brat much???) including taking an all inclusive holiday to Fiji!
However, after leaving my travel partner Tara on the ski fields of Cantebury and venturing off on my own, I found it hard to meet people and soon got lonely. Lonelyness led to home sickness and pretty soon before I knew it I had abandoned my trip and headed for the more familiar and less scenic pastures of home.
Which I enjoyed for the all of five minutes my friends asked me how my trip was, I reveled in telling them about the scenery and the people I had met until they got bored and started talking about something else, something that didn't involve me as I hadn't been there to witness the event. Doubt was already nagging at me and I had only been home for 3 days - I wanted to go back, I regretted coming home, and I knew I was the most idiotic person on the planet for giving up on my dream.
It wasn't long before I was hatching a plan to leave again, I got talking to a girl I used to work with - Rachael - we had been emailing while I was in NZ and she genuinely seemed interested when I was telling her my stories, we talked about travelling in general, about how she would love to do something like that, I invited her along with me and she accepted.
So in 20 days Rachael and I head down to London to jump on a flight bound for Miami, and with only an unlimited train travel ticket in our hand and a backpack on our back we are going to have an adventure that will take us across the States. The only thing we know for certain is that we are flying out of LA on the 19th April, but its all good.
This journal therefore will be a record of this trip - the ups, the downs and everything in between... Who knows where it will go and what stories it will hold.
For now I will say goodbye
