Once into the 'Gateway to the South' that is Virginia, we could expect lovely humid, hot weather and none of the issues we had experienced before in Alaska - WRONG! We hit a wall of fog as soon as we entered the Blue Ridge Mountains and drove up Skyline Drive. We got a few pictures in a couple of the gaps but mainly Rich was trying not to bang his uncle's SUV into anything in almost zero visibility. We got to Big Meadows, which was about halfway and things seemed to clear up. About 45 minutes into a walk and we saw the familiar sight of mist rolling in through the trees and it was pea soup in minutes. Doh!
