...to the best of times.....
We arrived at a place described by the Lonely Planet as 'Baghdad-on-Sea': It's easy to see why Trincomalee was burdoned with this description last year when you count all the army checkpoints, bases, guns escarpments and road blocks along the way.
Fortunately for us they are all now deserted and we arrived to a town where, rather than having to bang on people's doors to get them to open up the shop, there was a distinct buzz about the place; colours and smells and a hopefulness and friendliness that caught us off guard.
Sadly, finding a good cheap hotel was so be a little more tricky and after spending a night in an over priced sweatbox, we stumbled upon a group of guys who had recently opened (5 days before) a small beach front hotel and after eating a delicious lunch and seeing it was a relaxed and fun place, we moved right in and then found it very difficult to leave.

What was the name of the place you stayed in Uppuveli? I am hoping to visit in May.
