Where I stayed

After a very early start I headed over the border from Flores to Palenque in Mexico.  Slightly eventful in that the man that sold me and 2 other girls tickets said they where al the way to Palenque, but they only got us as far as the border! Very annoying.
Once I arrived in Palenque I took the collective to a little place outside the town near the ruins called El Panchan. Its a realy nice place of lots of little cabins and restaurants and stuff.  When I got there I was so tired and hot that I had a sleep in front of the fan for a few hours.
When I got up I ran into some people who where going to the river for a swim. So a group of about 10 of us headed of in a convoy of cars to the river.  Was so nice to cool down, and watch people cliff jump into the river.  One of the guys caled Oscar who was Mexican said he and his friend where making hummus that evening if I wanted to join.  It turned out that it was actually I kinda of little cafe kitchen where people ate whatever they made that day.  I helped them make the hummus so I didnt have to pay.  He then said if I helped out in the kitchen for 3 hours a day I could stay in one of the cabanas for free and get the meal each day! So I spent the next 3 days doing just that, which was cool because I would have just been hanging out there anyway!  All for making a bit of hummus!
The next morning I decided to be good and went to see the Palenque ruins.  I actually liked them more than the ones in Flores, even though most pepole say the other way around. Then in the afternoon we al went on a tour to these amazing waterfals, was so nice.  Spent a good few hours swimming beneath them.
I also spent one morning in the garden of some guy picking up mangoes from the floor for my food for the day!  Basically he rents a house that used to be a mango orchard, but now there is noone looking after it so they just fall to the ground. They turned out to be the nicest, juiciest, sweetest mangoes I have ever eaten.
