G'day from Sydney!

We arrived after a 4 hour flight from Fiji to a sunny Sydney on May 7th. The flight over was good and we sat amongst the under 18's Fijian Rugby team!
Over the first week and a half we stayed in a couple of hostels in Kings Cross (Sydney Central Backpackers and Original Backpackers) and for the last few nights we stayed in a hotel in the city centre.
We packed a lot in over the 2 weeks we spent in Sydney and had good weather (considering its now their Winter : 26 degrees one day!) which was lucky for us sightseeing. Sydney harbour was really impressive - we headed to Circular Quay and took a ferry to Manly beach one day. There were great views of the harbour bridge and the Opera house, especially on the way back as the sun was setting over the city. Manly beach was cool - really windy though so we went for a drink in a pub overlooking the beach.
As you can imagine Sydney is full of shops and markets and we managed to visit 'Paddy's' Market in Chinatown, 'The Rocks' market, The strand arcade and Sydney central Plaza - only window shopping! Paddy's market led us to Darling Harbour - which we loved and spent time chilling by the water. Other sites included the Royal Botanic Gardens where we walked to Mrs Macquaries Chair  which gives you amazing views of the opera house and harbour bridge, a night ferry trip to Luna park (Theme park across the harbour).
There was big news for the Australians whilst we were here - a 16 year old girl "Jessica Watson" arrived back to Sydney after an unaided Round the World sailing trip! There were so many people at the harbour that day - we didnt get to see her but we saw her boat at the maritime museum the following day. We also went into the museum to fit a bit of education in. (It's not one big holiday!)
In the evenings we mainly chilled - had an amazing Ozzie BBQ at the hostel one night - Sach overloaded on meat. Was cool as we got chatting to other travellers. Kings Cross is a cool area (not as bad as people make out!) very backpackery amongst the odd tramp or drunk!
In the second half of the week we were in the city centre - visited the Wildlife park and Aquarium. Both were great and I (Sally) loved seeing the Koalas and Kangaroos- we got to go into the enclosure to meet the Koalas Sid, Mo and Charlie! Very cute. Had our picture with them and could stroke them. The Aquarium was amazing too - they had an oceanarium set as the great barrier reef with huge sharks, sting rays and a giant sea turtle. Also saw a couple of Dugongs haha Unfortunately we got absolutely soaked on the way home - never seen so much rain at once!
We can see why people love Australia and Sydney - really cool place. We thought theRocks area was really cool (loved the chocolate pancakes at 'pancakes on the rocks'!). We had a really good two weeks here, loved seeing the iconic sites and would definately recommend visiting - I think we would get working visas next time and explore more of the country.
Weve got to go and catch our flight to Bali now - very excited to hit the beach again.

Hope this blog finds you all well and keep up with the emails as its great to hear from home!
