so after 2 days of being in transit...from ushuaia to quito.....finally made it. quito is about 2500m above see level (i think) so suffered a little from the altitude. (thought iīd got really fit from all the hiking down south but in quito all it took was a flight of stairs to get me puffed out!). only stayed a couple of days. that was enough really, itīs quite a full on city. (food was really cheap........1 dollar for a huge plate of fried rice......good for us vegos). the city is really pretty at night with all the lights in the valleys of the hills. and kel and i did go to the īmiddle of the worldī, on the equatorial line. pretty funny stuff. itīs like this weird theme park, literally in the middle of nowhere, in this dry, arid landscape. AND::::::yes folks, itīs true the toilets really do flush the other way in the northern hemisphere....i saw it with my own eyes!
