Blake visited this weekend and we had tons of fun. He got in to Hannover in the early evening and took a train to Braunschweig where I picked him up from the main train station and we headed downtown on the tram. We ate dinner at Vapiano's, an Italian restaurant near the mall. After diner we took a bus back to my dorm and crashed for the night, Blake was pretty tired from traveling. We made some Jello, which Blake can't find in Denmark, to eat on Saturday. We also went out on the 9th floor balcony of my building to see the city at night and stars.
Saturday we got up and had a breakfast of fresh rolls with jelly and butter and jello. Then we went downtown. I showed him all around the mall, old architecture like the Rathaus and St. Katherine's Cathedral, and some of the university campus. We got lots of yummy food, a donut and pretzel at a bakery, later we split a kiwi fruit-ice cream (like sorbet), and we had lunch at a Currywurst cafe and Blake got to try traditional Braunschweig Currywurst. Blake spotted a pharmacy and we stopped in and he bought a few things that he needed but were super expensive in Copenhagen. We also went to the natural history museum, which was mostly animals and not much history. There were a lot of taxidermied animals and a bunch of aquariums with cool fish and other sea creatures. After all afternoon downtown, we went back towards my dorm and went grocery shopping. We bought frozen Chicken Schnitzel and a yummy sauce to put on it, more bread rolls and lettuce, tomatoes, croutons and balsamic vinegar dressing for salads. We ate dinner with Chenxi and it was very good. I'm glad she and Blake got to meet. After dinner, it was quite late by that point, we hung around, very full from a good meal.
Sunday was a more lazy day. We had a small breakfast of fruit and toast and then took a walk through the nature preserve. We took a bus down to the nice little pizza place afterwards and split a "large" pepperoni pizza (it was more like a small pizza by American standards). It was really good, just as the last pizza I had there. Afterwards we went back to my apartment and Blake wrote up his travel journal entry and packed up all his things. Then we got on the bus to take him back to the train station so he could get home for his Monday morning class. After I dropped him off I went home and made pasta with meatsauce for dinner.
It was such a fun weekend, and I'm excited for him to show me around Copenhagen next weekend!
