Got into Yosemite about 2pm and had a quick look round before heading to the accommodation I had booked. That was when we found that the road was closed due to a rock fall and we had to drive an extra 100k to get there and the same back the next day. All worth it though. Those of you who told us we had to go to Yosemite were right, it is totally spectacular. Masses of water in the waterfalls, just magic.
Finally left and headed South to a motel in Fresno. Had another meal that was twice the size it needed to be. I had a lunch sized salad which was more than enough. R manages to do the meals more justice. The trick is to order one between two - just have to get R to eat more salads
After Yosemite we did 2 more National parks, Kings Canyon and Sequoia. Saw the big trees, including the world's largest (they say). Amazing views once again. And hardly anyone around.
Followed this with a night in a ghastly motel, stinking hot and hardly anything worked. Found out that this was because we had not turned on the right master switch. Nothing works quite as we are used to. Every day we learn something new.
It has been very hot, about 14F higher temps than they expect for this time.
When I have time I'll write something about our impressions of America and Americans.
We are now back on the coast just North of LA, staying with Richard's cousin Mark and his family. Last saw him in 1972. They are treating us royally.
Surprised to find the sea temp about like Taranaki in mid winter. Not sure how those Bay Watch babes managed not to show the goose bumps.
Tomorrow we head inland again towards Vegas and Phoenix. Had planned to go via Death Vally but our car rental agreement doesn't allow it after May 1.
