On August 7th 2007 the team arrived in Portland after a full day of travel. The team left Waterford in the early morning. They were escorted to the end of town of  Waterford by many firetrucks and police cars and they continued on to Albany in bus donated for the day by the New London Fire Department. They traveled all day by plane and finally arrived in Portland far after midnight, Waterford time. Needless to say the girls were very tired when they arrived at their host family's homes, the people that they would be living, eating, sleeping, and staying with during the World Series. The next morning the team woke up rather early considering their late night arrival. They get ready and left with their host families for the field where opening ceremonies, the ice cream social, and the skills competition would take place. It was here that their real families met them and their host families for the first time since arriving at the field in Portland. Everyone took a good look around at the field, which was beautiful, festive and surrounded by a breath taking view of the surrounding mountains. After the gathering of friends, teams, families, and host families was over the girls took the field, along with all the other teams from around the world, for opening ceremonies. All of the teams were then announced and all of the different national anthems were played. Once the opening ceremonies were finished the girls from all of the teams gathered for an ice cream social. The girls got to enjoy ice cream while bonding with girls from all over the world. Later the teams took the field once again this time for the skills competition. 3 girls from each team got to compete. From our team Kassie did the pitching contest,  Alyssa did the running, and Kelli did the hitting. Although Kassie and Alyssa did well, they didn't win. Kelli; though, did well and came in first place out of all of the hitters. She received a new bat as a prize for her victory. This concluded the first day at the field, and after all the activities were done, the girls headed off to another field for there first practice on the west coast for a great end to their first day.

My cousin Allison, Nevin, my aunt and Liam were all listening to the game at the Spellman's. I showed them all the web page and they were very excited. Liam liked seeing his mother-even though it was only the back of her head. Maybe you can get one of her from the front. Go East!!!!

It's Looking Good
The win over Oregon increased the chances of Waterford winning, but it didn't assure them they would be in the semifinals. Alexa has calculated and calculated and come up with a simple formula for figuring out what will be needed for the Waterford girls to be on TV on Tues. It is: ^4jl%i*ld+7/31donuts. Or, to be simple, the Latin Am. game VS Texas tomorrow will be critical. If LA loses, Waterford is in. If the game is shortened by the run rule, Waterford is in. If Texas scores more than 6 runs, Waterford is in. The only way Waterford will not be in is if LA wins without scoring 7 runs. Really.
