Where I stayed
Staying in one of the nicest hotels at the Russian River is a very good thing to do. It is just a little strange to drive up and park with a canoe on the roof and a car full of camp gear. Luckily the people here are amazingly friendly and the place is amazing. Our roadtrip is starting with a relaxing few days in a hotel before we hit the campgrounds.
So after spending yesterday afternoon relaxing in the spa we set off to paddle the Russian River today. Instead of paying for expensive river shuttles to take you back to your car after you finish your trip we are using free "Mike Power" on my bike. So after leaving the car at the take out and biking back to Jen and the Canoe 9 miles up the river we set off and spent a relaxing few hours paddling down the river.
The Russian River is pretty flat but had a few fast spots which give us a chance to practice out fast water skills. We are getting pretty good with the canoe and are feeling confident to start tackling faster water.
We finished off the day with a meal and the critically acclaimed restaurant at the hotel, perfect food, good Californian wine. What more could you need?
