After five days and five nights spent in the Sahara desert with only two camels and their two masters, I have learned a completely new meaning of the concept of 'silence'. Days would be used to explore some dunes, some other dunes and then finally more extraordinary dunes, and the fantastic part is that you never get bored of it! You could stay there for ever, swimming over dunes at day and sitting close to the camp fire in the evening (it is not particularly chilly at night but it is just so pleasant to do that!), listening to the wood cracking and watching the thousands of stars that are offering themselves to a delighted and speechless (and sun-burned) audience. M'Hamid is the last oasis connected to the road network in the East of Morroco. It is the perfect gateway to the Sahara and where I started this adventure. Beyond it, only sand, dust, sun, wind (and flies, lots of flies!) remain. It is such symbol for what I experienced last week: when you leave M'Hamid with your caravan, it is like falling from a cliff into a parallel world.
