Arriving in Lima, Peru there was no view of the city.  There was too much pollution and clouds.  We had a fantastic flight and all the flight attendants were very nice.  We found a taxi and went straight to our rented apartment in Miraflores.  After dinner at a pizza place we found a private taxi driver who would take us for a tour of the city.  We decided that we would go the next morning.  So the next morning we met the guy and he took us to a bunch of nice city squares.  He showed us where the President lives and the mayor.  We also ate lunch at the market and breakfast from a street vender.  Down at the ocean was beautiful.  They are just coming out of winter so it's still a little cold here.

We sponsor a child through Compassion Canada who lives in Peru.  His name is Bexsimo and we have been sponsoring him for over a year now.  The whole reason that we decided to come to Peru was to visit him.  A transalatater came with us.  What she does is translate all the letters that go to the child or the sponsor.  The first place we went to was the Compassion Project..  The Project is where all the kids learn crafts as well as how to take care of themselves They have also started a program with the mothers who are pregnant then for 4 years after they are born.  After that the kids start in Compassion.  The kindergarten group sang us a little song marching around with Canadian flags and the Peruvian flag.  At the end they gave it to each of us. We went to Bexsimo's house which has no running water or electricity.  He has one brother and one sister.  His grandparents live right next door (in the same shack) to them.  We took them all out to lunch at the local restaurant.  We were very glad to see Bexsimo for the first time.

We had a fabulous time in Peru.  We really enjoyed getting to learn Spanish and the culture.  We will all appreciate things a lot more now I think.
