The hostel I booked was in Buda and took about 45 minutes of metro/bus/trams to get there. After all that, I arrived at the hostel to meet an American girl headed out for a guided bike tour of the city. I splashed some water on my face and started peddling!
I've been in town less than 36 hours, but Budapest is already showing itself as a great city, if more expensive than my recent travel destinations. For those who aren't in the know, Budapest was three separate cities before 1873. Hilly Buda was west of the Danube and flat Pest was to the East. Óbuda (the oldest part of Buda) to the north was also incorporated.
I'm sure I'm overdue for some insightful banter about the locals or the economy here but I just can't be bothered. Then again, I haven't included anything like that in this blog before, so why start now?
I'm off to find a little cafe for lunch and people watch.
P.S. - I have a confirmed flight from Vienna to Bangkok departing Aug 17. Lee and Jerramy - can't wait to see you guys!!
