Quick stop in Izmir after taking the overnight bus from Istanbul. Headed to Selšuk tomorrow & Ephesus!

Izmir is Turkey's 3rd largest city (population about 3 million) but there's not much for a traveler. I'll probably head to the bazaar & waterfront, but not much else.

CORRECTION
I ended up enjoying my evening in Izmir. It is a sprawling city on a bay surrounded by mountains. As intended, I really only hung around the waterfront and cruised the bazaar but still met some interesting people.

There's a park along the waterfront lined with pubs and cafes where a lot of people hang out including teens. Couples who are dating with really no place to go sit on the grass almost hidden among the shrubs and talk and smooch. It was cute.

I popped in to one pub just before a big football (soccer) match and had quite the time. The Turks are fanatics! For some reason I thought of Tommy (Cynda's beau). He's Danish...maybe he's a fanatical freak too?

So, all this enjoyment has included beverages and I'm afraid to calculate what my daily budget has been! C'est la vie. I'm off for the 85km ride to Selšuk.

As usual, pics will follow...internet is free here but no USB.

Over and OUT.

Yes, I deserve to get shit
Yes, yes, yes...you're not the only one to give me shit about saying there was nothing to do in a city of 3 million - and I deserve it.
