Today would be a pretty hectic day. I was planning to bus it to Dambulla, jump off to see the Royal Rock Temple & then catch a second bus to Sigiriya to see Sigiriya Rock, a World Heritage site, before crashing at a guesthouse just outside that site.
I made it to the Kandy "bus station", found my bus & took off. $1.20USD and three hours later (and only 72 km down the road) I was in Dambulla. The guide book listed the Royal Rock Temple as a "must see" if you're in the area. The temple is actually 5 "caves" filled with Buddhas and paintings. It was OK, but certainly not a must see. I cruised through in roughly 10 minutes and returned to the street to find a tuk-tuk. Couldn't believe I spent $10USD to get into that place - more than a private room with shared bath for a night.
Tuk-tuk found...& was offered to go all the way to Sigiriya (22km further) via tuk-tuk for only $5USD. Done - let's go!
