Where I stayed
Highfields Backpackers
Choosing Knysna (n eyes na) was a mistake. The Garden Route...east along the coast from Cape Town...is world renown and has long been ON the beaten path. It is very well established & has tons of backpackers along the way. Unfortunately, transportation options are fairly limited. Bus companies often drop people at gas stations on the main road where you're left with an expensive taxi ride. The Baz Bus has developed as an alternative, which will run longer distances & drop you at the exact hostel where you want to stay. It is EXPENSIVE.
So...I chose Knysna for a few reasons. It's an easy walk from the main bus stop & it was described as much different from the other Garden Route stops. Knysna sits on a dramatic lagoon where most other locations are beach, beach, beach.
I forgot about Boxing Day...Sunday the 26th but is observed today the 27th. This means everything in
this small resort town is closed. Not a DAMN thing to do. So, I have a day to waste before heading to Port Elizabeth for a night & flight. In addition, no alcohol is sold on public holidays. As Polly pointed out to me, I should take this gift! All in all, I'm just not feeling it. The #1 hostel here is crap!
Found a bookstore and started the 2nd in the Millennium series. Good stuff.
