So...I'm getting ready to head off again.  Today is my last day of employment and I leave the US on 10/19.  I'm excited to get out again even if it is only for 3-4 months.

The trip as I know it now has me arriving in Nairobi on 10/20.  I will have a few days to acclimate before jumping on my overland tour.  Yes....I said 'overland tour.'  I'm a bit frightened myself, but ultimately decided that it would be nearly impossible (and much more expensive) to see a fraction of the sites I'll see on my own.  I would have to rent cars...and I can't imagine that I'd have the opportunity to meet many people.  We'll see how it goes.  I booked through Acacia Africa, a UK-based company that is on the budget end.  We'll be sleeping in tents every night & cooking our own food.  Adventure!

I jump on the truck in Nairobi for the first leg of the journey.  We will cross into Uganda near the headwaters of the Nile before reaching Impenetrable National Park.  INP = Mountain Gorillas & we'll hike into the jungle to hopefully spend a bit of time with them.

Then eventually back to Nairobi before heading south into Tanzania where there are TONS of good things to see.  If you have a picture in your mind of an African Safari....that's Tanzania.  Some of the big parks are there - Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Kilimanjaro.  YES.

We'll then spend a few days on the beach on Zanzibar before heading south...eventually along Lake Malawi, into Zambia and Victoria Falls.  Then into Botswana for Chobe and the Okavango Delta.  Crossing into Namibia brings much dryer conditions...desert and dunes!  Finally, we'll make it into South Africa and break for Cape Town.  All this will take 8 weeks!

I'll then have a few weeks on my own to make it back up to Johannesburg to catch a flight to Kuala Lumpur.  I arrive the morning on 12/31 for Asian New Year!

Then, who knows.  I think I'll spend a month or so skipping around Asia...perhaps Sri Lanka...before hopping back to the West somehow.

'Leaving Do' for work is this afternoon....so long Home Depot!

We'll miss you when you're gone. Even if it is only for a few months!

Wow, the trip sounds fantastic. I think we went with Acacia Africa in Malawi and it was all good. The safari will be amazing I'm sure - but worth getting some binoculars!!!

Jealous. x
