Baltimore experience lasted for about 5 hours. On Friday I caught the 6 o'clock flight to Baltimore from Memphis, with a stop over in St Louis. I was heading to Baltimore to meet a good friend of mine (David) from the University back in the UK. We went to the same Uni and the last time I saw him, I thought was 5 years ago. But David told me that the last time I saw him, it was 2004 just before his departure to Spain. I quietly nod my head not remembering what he was talking about!
It was David's birthday on Saturday and the plan was to meet up in Baltimore (since he lives there now...it's OK, at least his company pays for the rent!) and go to DC the next day to meet up with some more people to celebrate his birthday. Despite David's concern about missing my flight connections (since I was flying with US airways, which turned out to be American Airways) I ended up at Baltimore's' airport one hour early! I had the security guard keeping me entertained about how he was spanked as a child and this tradition should be continued now, since the kids these days are spoiled! I could not agree more.
David picked me up at the airport with a friend and we headed out to some bar in the town centre. There I met a lot of Koreans "girls" and discovered David's love for Koreans "girls"! They were very sweet and an amazing bunch to hang out with. Our night out pretty much consisted of going from one bar to another and drinking like they were about to close the bar in the next 4 minutes! I was amazed as to how much the Koreans could drink!
The night finally ended at about 2 am, at which time all the bars close. We went back to David's house and had a little house drinking party, which I passed out before it even began!
The next morning, we got up at lunch time! left for DC with Steph (one of the Korean girls) after a nice coffee and many donuts. Once in DC we said goodbye to Steph and David and I began the touristic site seeing! Which pretty much consisted of seeing the white house, house of congress and George Washington monument. The weather was pretty sunny but cold. The city was quiet and peaceful and I really liked the architecture in the city. DC gave out some really nice vibes! And good hot dogs and fantastic free BBQ! well actually we just crashed at some student's sport's event BBQ. We managed to walk past the George Washington University and there it was...the fantastic smell of BBQ...we followed the smell and came to a little park where music was blasting and students were making and eating BBQ. David asked if it was a free event and the girl drooling over her hamburger, nodded yes...I am sure she was drooling only because a tall English man just asked her a question in an English accent! We were served free food, free drinks and even free T-shirts in support of the Basketball game that evening at the University.
After spending about 4 hours going around the city, we headed to our hotel which was suppose to be near the Dupoint circle...suuuuuure, if you consider 20 minutes of walking up a steep hill near! Yes I have become lazy! It is the American way, I always believed if you can't beat them, join them! And as for David, well it was his birthday and he is OLD (His words and I quote: "I feel old...I am 27" ! We checked in and collapsed in the room as we were both exhausted. David kindly offered to postpone the birthday do till an hour later! Thank god for that...I could get a close eye for couple of minutes!
At about 8:25 we left the hotel just in time to meet the rest of the group at 8:30 outside the Metro...needless to say everyone was late and I could have had another 2 minutes in bed resting my legs! I met more of David's friends, which not to my surprise they all turned out to be girls...somethings never change, hey David?
That night we had dinner at a Palestinian/Lebanese restaurant and went out to Havana Club for some serious Cuban Salsa! It was just incredible. I danced so much that the next day I woke up with a very strange pain in my leg...it's still there! The next morning/lunchtime we had brunch and went to check out the museums, David did a great job at the space centre museum explaining to me everything about space shuttles and how the Russians and the Americans competed and then collaborated!
I came back to Memphis on Sunday around about 11:30 pm! David it was a great weekend, thank you again! And send me the photos soon, so I can put them up!
