We got to the hotel early because today was only a 40 mile day. After checking in, Jeremy and I started unloading the bags. Towards the end I was moving one of the bigger bags and stubbed my toe on it. I looked down only to see that my toe nail was sticking straight up and my toe was bleeding a lot
. It didn't hurt as much as you would think. Amber thinks it is because I went into shock. I tried to clean it in the bathtub but it hurt too much to even lightly touch my nail or the skin beneath it. The riders started showing up soon and made the executive decision to send me to the clinic. They technically couldn't see me until 2, but as soon as they took a look at my foot they sent me back to a room really quick. He gave me a few numbing shots which hurt A LOT and then removed my toenail. I also got a tetanus shot, just in case. It was kind of entertaining after I pushed through the pain. He kept singing "I've Seen Better Days".
After the doctor's, I came back and rested for a little bit. We went to dinner at Circle D's (after some double booking at Cowboy Blues...oops?) which was surprisingly really good. I had fish tacos and some homemade key lime pie cheesecake. I figured after getting fish I could have some desert right?
Tomorrow is about 70 miles with another steep climb and narrow roads. Apparently the ride is supposed to be beautiful though so I am looking forward to it. 5 AM breakfast, here I come!
Today started off really nice. We had a pancake breakfast over at Clarke's and then left shortly after. Chad's girlfriend has been joining us these past few days so they needed someone to drive their car over to the hotel while they drove. I ended up driving it and it was actually one of the best drives I have ever had. The road ran right through a bunch of canyons and past the grand staircase. The rock formations here are incredible. They are nothing like I have ever seen in person. I stopped off at one of the scenic turnouts for some pictures. Of course, they don't do it justice. I did see a lizard though that pretty much posed for me. Must be used to all the pictures.
