Today, like everyday, was pretty unique. Started off pretty well. We were warned that there might be a chance of snow, but I don't think anyone seriously considered it happening since it is May. Jeremy, Amanda and I took off in the lead vehicle with the luggage and also had another rider, Eric, with us who wasn't feeling well. Later on we also picked up a hitchhiker on his way to Nevada. First time I have ever picked up one too, but Amanda said they are pretty common around this area. Eric got a little paranoid though and put on his sunglasses to look like he was sleeping and hid Jeremy's pocketknife in case anything went wrong. It is weird to see how PTSD affects some of the riders. It gives them some little quirks which can sometimes be funny, but other times a little sad. I wonder sometimes how they feel about it since most of them don't talk about PTSD like they do their other injuries.
Everything went pretty well until the threat of the storm became a little clearer and then they had to start picking up riders. I was already at the Kirkwood Resort by this time waiting for the riders to arrive. We soon realized that there is nothing around Kirkwood and that if we got snowed in at Kirkwood we would be screwed, especially since this was off season for the ski resort. We decided it would be better to just drive all the riders to South Lake Tahoe and spend the next 3 nights here instead. Pretty nice too, because it means that we all have essentially another rest day. The only annoying part was that I had already unloaded all the luggage at Kirkwood and all of of the vehicles were being used to transfer riders. Lukily, as always, State Farm stepped up and sent three of their vans to help me get the luggage to South Lake. It is a cute little hotel, very rustic and lodge feeling with a big fireplace. The perfect place to get snowed in. Hopefully tomorrow will be an easy day and I will be able to catch up on some sleep.
