I'm amazed by how much you can do in one day.
Today started at 6:30 which surprisingly felt like sleeping in to me. After breakfast, we had a short staff meeting going over some logistics for the next few days. Few hours later, we walked down Marina Drive on the way to pick up my bike at the Sports Basement. (Dylan, you will be happy to hear that the bike arrived all in one piece). The walk was beautiful. Marina Drive takes you all down the waterside and gives a really good view of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. Seeing it in person was pretty weird. Landmarks only seem real to me in pictures sometimes, if that makes any sense. After that, we met with the State Farm representatives to talk about the PR and communications for this ride. It is making me really excited to get on the road and start doing what we all really came here for. Dinner was at Amici's which specialized in "East Coast Cuisine" which I found pretty amusing. The highlight of the day would have to be tonight though. A few of the other interns, riders and I went out on "The Queen" to what was supposed to be the hippiest part of town. A little tame tonight, although I was offered some free burritos and fruit from a traveling street band and saw the Walmart of weed and bongs. I also got a pair of wicked shoes from the Tibetan Gift Shop (think jester shoes made out of the Sham Wow material). Then, we took the van around looking for the craziest hills we could find. Unfortunately, a lot of the streets didn't allow vans, which honestly, I'm not even sure how some of them even allow cars. Looking forward to tomorrow too. The riders are heading down to dip their back tires in the Pacific Ocean at Crissy Fields.
