Day 25
Off to Prague we went on the extremely efficient Vienna public transport system. When we entered Czech the ticket man asked for our tickets and told us our passes were not valid, and wanted payment for the ticket. We paid all we had, which was not enough, and he said he would come back later to collect some Czech money from us. He never came back though. When we say him when we got off he said to forget about the rest because the chief inspector wasn't working that day, so he just pocketed the money. Got off the train to enter the subway system and got caught by a subway ticket inspector who said we were trying not to pay as we thought we bought tickets downstairs like in America. Lots of crying by Jacky and arguing on our part and we got off with a warning. On top of that we rode the tram in the wrong direction. Rough start to Prague. Finally made it to the hostel, Sir Toby's Inn. It was nice and quiet there. The dinner was good and cheap next door. Hellacious time getting here, but the food and lodging in pretty cheap. Do the sights tomorrow.
Quote of the day: "You the shit." Ticket inspector after we refused numerous times to pay a fine for not having a valid subway ticket
Places: Vienna, Austria ; Prague, Czech Republic
Day 26
Good night sleep. Went out to find Prague Castle, and found it after getting on the wrong tram again. Saw St Vincent's Cathedral. Enormous Gothic Church. We climbed to the top for a good view of Prague. Saw a little of the Palace before leaving and headed towards Old Town. It was not that spectacular. Saw the old gate a few churches and called it a day. Went out to a meeting later and got lost. Asked some woman for directions and she gave them to me in German because she didn't know English, and I don't speak Czech. Got off at the wrong stop and had to back track, but made it on time. Head back and got some sleep as its off to Berlin tomorrow. I liked the city for the statues and architecture, but not sure I will come back any time soon.
