Total Mileage 3 days: 876.3
Trip Mileage: 7865.9

Today's drive finally took us out of Las Vegas permanently.  We drove like a bat out of Hades.  Travelling through the desert like surroundings, it took a while to finally cool down.  Three states later it dropped out of a hundred degrees and the scenery began to pick up again.  Southern Utah is a beautiful string of canyons, which I would like to spend some more time in.  Upon getting on I-70 in Utah is where the views really begin to pick up, and it was an enjoyable ride all the way into Colorado.  The road was even more picturesque but the sun did set so that kind of ruined it.  Upon arrival into Aspen we went down for a quick view of town, where apparently everyone thinks they're ghetto from New York City.

States Visited: NV, AZ, UT, CO

Day 29

Most of the first part of the day was spent walking around Aspen again, where there were more ghetto kids.  I don't understand yet.  Then we went in search of a forest fire, that had just broken out in one of the surrounding areas.  We tried many roads, the search resembled trying to find the Hollywood sign, but we were blocked off by sheriff's.  We did, however, get to watch some planes drop the retardant on the fire.  Also during the day, we ended up at band camp.  Rather strange.  We then went back to town and discovered that people here are entirely too happy. The park is like a scene from the "Wonder Years" where everyone was talking with strangers, and playing frisbee with them.  The whole scene kind of disgusted me, and I believed I am destined to stay in the northeast.  As the night continued we went out for someone's 21st birthday.  People are strange out here.  Some 50 year old guy was hanging out at the bar and either tried to fight us, or pick us up.

Quote of the day: "September 11th, man I watched that shit on TV.  It was intense." Girl at the bar

Day 30

Our final day and night in Aspen.  Started with a delightful little breakfast, before the day really began.  After that we went back into town to visit some of the little shops, and to ride the gondola up the mountain.  Like the rest of Aspen it was expensive, but the views were worth it.  The day needs to start early though for you only have 1/3 the oxygen up there.  Later that night we went out to this outdoor jazz festival.  People from this are all old hippies that sold out, made tons of money, then tried to buy themselves back in.  The kids have no real grasp on reality and its all quite funny if you ask me.  Anyway rest of the night was spent wandering around town at some of the bars.  Must be nicer in season.

Quote of the day: "Yeah, I'm a Vietnam vet, and, I'm from Montclair, NJ." Vet at the bar trying to pick a fight.
