We are here in La Guiara, Venezuela on our last day. The first few days of being here were incredible. We tok a supposed to be 4 hour bus ride to our ecolodge in De La Costa but turned out to be 8 hours because of a monster traffic jam IN THE MIDDLE OF THE JUNGLE!!! It was incredible, we got stuck with 50 other cars and we all danced and drank beers in the middle of the road with the locals. I put a picture of it up, it was really nice to talk to some of them. The lodge was great, Jordan and I had to sleep in the same bed though which was kind of weird but thats how it goes. The first day there, we went to the coral lagoon and snorkeled, slept in hammocks, ate fresh fish, kayaked, swam, played soccer and more. We also met a really cool guy named Abraham and got his email. We partied at the lodge that night with an authentic Venezuelan drum and chorus line. The dancing was really fun. We went into the cloud forest the next day and probably did the hardest hike I have or will ever do! The scenery was incredible though and it was topped off by a nice dip in a river. We all came back to the ship that night and now we are walking around Caracas/La Guiara until 9 when we depart for Brazil. So far I have had the absolute time of my life. Thank you so much for allowing me to participate in this. Classes are fine, not too hard and the ship is SOOOO much fun. We already met tons of people. The food isn´t so hot too far and I´m not the only one who thinks so.

Jordan stepped in some shit while going to the bathroom outside. Came back on with it all over his shoes and stepped on backpacks and stuff. It was hilarious cuz it was all over the bus and it made it smell real bad!!!

We talked to a family about there opinions on Hugo Chavez the president. It was remarkable to hear two sides of the story. American Pat Roberts called for his assassination a few weeks ago. This stirred up a lot of controversy down here. Hugo Chavez is liked by most because he seems to fit in with the people. He looks like an average Venezuelan citizen. The family we talked to likes him a lot because he seems to ¨give to the poor.¨But many people dont like how he flings money around.

Venezuela has a very itneresting culture. Most towns are shantytowns, and most people are poor. But everyone has been very respectful. Caracas is the capital city and is very large. Our ship ported in La Guiara which is small and ghetto. The weather is nice in that it is not too hot but hot enough to get tan. The currency is 2200 bolivares to the dollar. Gas is 12 cents a gallon. More later...
