After passing through Coos Bay, Oregon and seeing Steve Prefontaines High School track, we decided to keep on trucking up to Eugene. We thought that the trail dedicated to him was in Coos Bay, but it's actually in Eugene. Once we got to Eugene, the first thing we saw was Hayward Field. Now I can understand why they call it Track town USA. This place is so well groomed and well kept, it kind of reminds me of Neyland stadium with the jumbotron minus the 108,000+ stands. We ran a few laps around the track and then continued our run through the campus. It's a very nice, clean campus. After sneaking into one of the dorms and taking a "shower" in the bathroom, we got some food in our bellys. We thought about maybe going out around town, but we were tired and just wanted to crash somewhere. So we set out on our scavenging to see where would be the best place for us for the night. We found this nice little park in the middle of a residential area. We thought it would be a great place to sleep for the night. It was secluded, hidden, in a good area. What could go wrong? (famous last words from our trip) I instantly passed out was my head hit the pillow, but was woken up about 2 or 3 hours later when the sprinkler system went off on our faces. There's nothing quite like getting woken up not knowing where you are and for some reason you're soaking wet. ha We were a little stressed at the time, but having memories like that are worth it. Once we woke up when the sun was rising, we went to the Campus bookstore and got a t shirt. We then headed towards Beaverton and Portland.
