Where I stayed
Stanford's Track
After driving all the way up the beautiful coast of California through the cliffs of Big Sur (and paying $5.00 a gallon for gas) we made it to Palo Alto, CA. Palo Alto is a suburb of San Francisco about 30 miles away. The only real attraction there is Stanford University. We were happy to not be driving anymore and be in cooler temperatures. We actually had to wear pants and sweatshirts. We walked around the campus, which is extremely nice, and found the track and football fields. After enjoying our ramen noodles, we went to the downtown and walked around for a bit. It seemed to be a fun little city with a lot of very smart people. We felt pretty safe where we had eaten dinner early, so we decided to call it a night there. I set up my hammock in some evergreen trees on the side of the track while Daniel decided to set up his sleeping bag and pad in the pit of the pole vault mats. We both awoke to the noise of ROTC (we think) doing drills at 5:30ish in the the morning. We got a good early start on our 30 mile trek to San Francisco.
