Where I stayed
Lanta Pearl Beach Resort

Koh Lanta is the island where we first met 3 years ago. The island tends to be a little more expensive than other islands during the high season, so we timed it right and arrived when the slow season started. The rooms were much cheaper and the island was nearly deserted.

Koh Lanta is a great island to explore by scooter as the roads are in great shape and the local drivers seems to be less crazy here. It's a fairly big island and there are lots of different places to explore. The road down the west side of the island hugs the coast and gives you beautiful ocean views most of the way. Also, because it was slow season, most restaurants were closed anyways so you need a scooter to get to any food.

We found one of the most beautiful beaches on one of these scooter rides, maybe even the most beautiful one we have seen in Thailand. Secluded on the southern tip of the island down a crazy pot-hole filled dirt road and we had it all to ourselves. White powdery sand and turquoise water with crashing waves. Everyone had a bit of a sunburn afterwards, as it was just too nice to leave. On the way back from the beach we noticed a restaurant called "Drunken Sailors" and pulled over to check it out. Turns out they have the most epic hamburgers we have ever seen. We made several trips back down to he south of the island just for the burgers (about 14km!). It was well worth it.

After a few days of chilling on Koh Lanta, our friends Ben & Kirsten had to go back home to snowy and cold "Min-ah-soh-ta". It seems crazy we met them two months earlier in Chiang Mai, but to quote Dana Butcher, "Time flies when you're having fun".

 And then there were three.....

After an epic two months of traveling with people we met in Chiang Mai, our group of six had been reduced by half. Things are much more quiet after 'B & K' left and we spent the next few days riding around on the scooters and swimming. One day we took the scooter on a round-the island trip which in total was about 45 km. The rest of the island is also very beautiful and it was a great way to spend out last day on Koh Lanta. On the very southern tip of the island is a very different kind of resort called "Sang Kha Ou Resort". Some of the rooms are built out of old boats, others built on stilts over the water and some are tree houses! The place is really cool but a bit overpriced, a small water cost 40 Baht! The rest of the island is also very beautiful and it was a great way to spend out last day on Koh Lanta. Next stop Trang and take the train down to Penang, Malaysia!
