Sukhothai is a small city famous for ancient ruins. Sukhothai, meaning "Dawn of Happiness", was the first kingdom in Thailand, founded 800 years ago.  The superb temples and monuments of this great city have been lovingly restored in Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-see for all travellers.
We took a bus about 12 kms to the entrance of the park, paid a 100 baht entrance fee and rented bikes to ride around the park. It is a truly beautiful park, well maintained with lakes, moats and trees woven in with decaying ruins and almost no people.
We found a great noodle soup vendor near our room and lived off of that while we were there. After two nights and one day we headed of to the next town, Ayutthaya.
