After staying at a guest house in Chiang Mai for a week we decided we needed a change of scenery.

Chiang Mai is a very popular city with foreigners, and we thought we would have good luck couchsurfing and meeting some cool people.

One of the people we contacted invited us to come camping with her that weekend. We met up and right away knew we would get along great.

Our camp trip took us to Ob Luang national park. There was no-one else in the park and we had a great sandy campsite right beside a river. The first night we took it easy but the next day was crazy. Lauren's best friend, Jenna, speaks a bit of Thai and helped us locate some giant inner tubes and  a tons of beer. The she helped us get a local villager to drive us to the top of some rapids and we spent the rest of the afternoon cruising down the river and enjoying the sunshine and scenery.

We got along with Lauren so well she invited us to come stay at her house for a few days, but it ended up being two weeks!

Lauren was the only foreigner living in her neighborhood and staying there had many benefits. In Thailand, there are 'Thai' prices and 'foreigner' prices. So all the nearby restaurants had really cheap food and it was all delicious. None of the people spoke any english, and it was really fun learning how to order all of our favourite dishes and learning the numbers so we could pay. Also there was a little Thai massages place where you could get an amazing massage for 100 Baht an hour ($3.25)!

There were a lot of crazy nights and hilarious days in the next two weeks:

One day we all went to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D.

Another day this guy from Texas went out and bought a bunch of ground beef and a beers so we had  BBQ and then played 'beer darts'.

The next night we made spaghetti and a huge batch of Sangria.

One day there was a crazy Thunderstorm and all the power went out.

Another time we went camping at another National Park, this one had hot mineral springs!

One night we all got drunk and went bowling - so much fun!
