We arrived to Los Angeles airport on schedule. The flight started pretty badly as Mattias was very unsettled but it finished great as he slept basically for the last 7 hours. A380 is pretty cool with low noise and great comfort even in cattle class.
The terrain around LA was very bare to say the least. There are barely any trees surrounding LA.
I had a lot of perceptions and warnings received about customs officers here in LA. I have to tell you that they were very friendly and willing to assist wherever possible. It was basically the same as in Australia.
There were also people outside the airport assisting travellers on where to go etc. I was impressed.
We caught a shuttle to get to the hire car place where they tried to "upsell" our booked package and wanted to charge us over $200 more. Anyway, after some exchanges all was good and we were on our way (on the wrong side of the road - yes Aussies are always doing it the right way).
Driving on the wrong side was my biggest worry for this holiday but it was better than I thought.
We went out of LA without problems on our way to Merced - 5 hour drive. The renowned LA highways lived up to my expectations - busy and up to 8 or 9 lines - pretty impressive.
During our trip we stopped at a Subway to get some food and when we asked for capsicum as part of the salad options we got a very blank look. It's called peppers here - the joys of being in America. :-)
We arrived in Merced around 6pm and tomorrow we are off to Yosemite National Park. I can't wait to take some cool photos from over there.

Hey Vlad...you need a shave! You never come to work with that stubble.
Heyyyy you!
That's good you did not have problem with Yenkies!!! They were too bad to us! They stole from me just a small amount of life safe cream tube, where was just a little bit of it in. We should go out from the plane, took all our luggage, go through the custom, live them again, came to the same plane, on same sits and continue with our flight! Are they changed? Hard to believe!
Have a safe and tiring trip! You have planned a lot for only 3 weeks! Go for it!
