From Petra ,we made it down to Aqaba which is on the Red Sea. We were planning to stay for a few days but it was cold and the town was lacking in charm so we hastened our trip across the border into Israel. Of course, there was a suicide bomber that morning, the first violence that Eilat had seen in many years. We decided that it would be very safe there immediately after an "incident" and proceeded on our way. We had to cross the border on foot. It was surprisingly low key. After asking questions where they ascertained that I had relatives there ,we were given what looked to be a free pass and were given the go ahead without even so much as an exray check of our bags.
Eilat was a contrast to Aqaba which you can see. It is a combination of Disneyland and Vegas. The hotels along the water were enormous and grand. They were accompanied with the usual stores and restaurants. The rest of the town was just a beach resort off season but pretty and the Red Sea was beautiful.
