What I did
Ok, I've got a bit of time now so I will do my updates.
We arrived in Las Vegas around lunch time and we went into Walmart to get some bits for our next few days in the wilderness and we then walked across the road to the gun store. It was horribly humid and once we got there there was an hour and a half wait, so we walked straight back to the van. I couldn't be bothered to wait that long to do it, so that was one thing on the itinerary that was not done.
We then drove to the hotel and I kept saying it was by the big pyramid but Dad wasn't seeing it. He was concentrating on the road around rather than in the distance. We checked in and went round the back of the complex to park the van across numerous spaces. We then locked up and took all the valuables in with us. It turns out later on I discovered that one of the windows was open, but we weren't broken into so my concerns were unfounded.
The hotel suite was ideal with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and the first thing we both did was go into our rooms lay on the beds and watch the TV. We were exhausted. We had this whole massive suite with a living room, kitchen, dining area etc and the only thing we used was the bedrooms! We even had a balcony which was only gone onto in order to check the van was ok.
We really had to drag ourselves out in order to go an see Vegas as I would have loved to have just gone to bed. We walked down towards the strip and we joined it at the MGM and New York New York. It was about 7pm but it was still really hot and humid. It is as if they don't want you to walk in Las Vegas and you are moved from the pavements up to overhead walkways which then suddenly stop and you'd be stuck somewhere you can't walk. They were trying to funnel you into shops which I didn't want to go into. And when we were on the pavement we were driven mad by the people handing out flyers for the brothels. They would literally put their arms in front of me while I was walking to try to give my Dad a flyer so I would have to fight through them.
We finally got to the Bellagio, as we were going to the buffet there to ensure we experienced Vegas. We stopped and watched the fountains but before they came on they had Bananarama on the speakers (and when we were in the Bellagio they had Rick Ashley). I'm not sure why the Bellagio was so obsessed with 80's music. After the fountains we headed into the hotel trying to get past the crowds of irritating dawdling people having to just push past them to get in. We went into one entrance at the Bellagio but there were no signs for the buffet and we ended up wandering aimlessly through the conservatory (complete with the halloween theme) and we then had to swalk through the casino floor to get to the other side of the hotel to get to the buffet. The casino was so depressing. Not one person looked happy. We queued for ages to get into the buffet and 80 dollars later we were in. I picked the buffet here as there was a load of seafood for my Dad. There was loads to try but I was totally rubbish and managed two plates and 3 tiny puddings. Dad managed much more. It was mainly to experience a Vegas buffet and it was true that people went mental. There were people with platefuls of crab legs and we got some austrailian blokes next to us which looked like they had never eaten before. They were stuffing it all in and managing to finish plates at one hell of the rate. One thing I found weird though was that there were only three loos for the whole of restaurant. I'm assuming they don't want people being able to make more room to have more food (from either end!)
Originally me and Dad were going to get the tour bus up the strip to see the sites and some of the free shows, but the walk up and the queuing we had had enough of Vegas so the first thing we did was jump in a cab and got straight back to the hotel. It was the best money ever spent!
