Hello Friends,

Here is another video - this one follows us from Powell Cay to Manjack Cay and includes a little snorkling trip.   We end the video by returning to Green Turtle Cay in time for Sunday Services with our Bahamian friends.

Enjoy!

Very enjoyable video.
No bugs?
Many times in the chesapeake when we bailed to take a natural break off the kayak we would run into a mess of aerial attackers.

Hi Richard,

The Bahamas is as close to paradise as you can get - there are bugs here, but not in mass. Every so often, we see a fly. a single fly. There are some nats now and then, but not in swarms. Bugs are a not and issue. Ruth has not reported a mosquito bite since we arrived here and she is a magnet!

I'm impressed with your boats sailing abilities. Can you toggle between SOG and STW for the camera sometime? The A38 is a boat that I would like to own someday.
Thanks for letting us follow along! :)

Hello -

We could... but our paddle wheel - knot meter is less than perfectly reliable. We don't trust what it reports. That makes it difficult to get actual impacts of current, but we are pretty good at estimating because we have a very good idea what the polars are for this boat (polars: how fast we should be going depending on wind and point of sail). The theoretical max through-the-water speed of an Alajuela 38 is about 8.3 knots. We have seen that speed only on a beam reach in fresh breezes. On passages we plan for 6.5 knots and we almost always arrive early - often averaging in excess of 7 knots.
