We arrived in Moscow this morning from St Petersburg at 0600, on the night sleeper train and are staying at the Gamma Delta Hotel. We are here until Friday 11th when we take the train at about 2300 for Irkutsk (Siberia - 4 days), stay there for 2 days before going onto Ulan Bataar, Mongolia. So you can write to us before Friday and we'll have a chance to reply!

St Petersburg was certainly an impressive city to visit - so many palaces, cathedrals and beautiful architectural places to visit, plus the wonderful canals and river views. Not so easy was getting to grips with the publlic transport system, but once again the Eastern Bloc has managed to provide a good quality system at a reasonable price. In fact, it's a bit like central London in that, it's often far faster to travel by metro than taxi!

The only downside apart from trying to read Russian letters, which all seem back to front or the opposite to what they look like in Englisn, was the lack of smiling faces when it comes to dealing with the public. However, perhaps that's something they'll develop in the next few years when tourism increases as predicted!

Will be attaching some of the photos taken during our 4 day stay in St Petersburg and will write more about it in the next few days! So stay tuned....
