Los Angeles was founded on September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe De Neve as El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Angeles del Río de Porciúncula (The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of the river of Porziuncola. It became a part of Mexico in 1821, following its independence from Spain. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican-American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States; Mexico retained the territory of Baja California. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles

I will be on my way to Los Angeles to meet Traci - my one and only travel partner.  It is truly hard to believe that we have one more day left before we depart for South America.  Of course, we are excited about it!  Traci and I have started packing last night.  And we will complete today.

My Los Angeles flight was interesting! The flight from Austin to Denver was delayed for an hour, which left me only a few seconds in between for the connection.  I kid you not!  I ran all the way to the next gate! While I was running, Traci paged and reminded me to ask the flight attendant to ensure my backpack is on the next plane for Los Angeles.  The person said yes and I went inside the plane (I was the last person). Upon my arrival at the Los Angeles International Airport, I found that the backpack was still in Denver! I was kind of freaked out, because Traci and I will be leaving for Miami in a couple of hours.  Fortunately, a nice guy at United Airlines Customer Services was helpful and will have my backpack flown to Miami this afternoon.  Hopefully Traci and I will see my backpack in Miami before we hop on another plane for Quito, Ecuador tomorrow.

Anyway, when I go to an airport, I always treat myself with two things: 1) A cup of coffee and 2) USA Today newspaper.  This has been the same for as long as I could remember! So, I have attached a picture for your pleasure.  ;-)
