I can see why people fall in love with Thailand. Everything is very inexpensive, the weather is perfect, and the beaches beautiful. Probably cheaper for me to be here for this week than to go back to the States. I can also see why some people are afraid of Thailand. The nightlife can be insane it seems. Such energy, but craziness (from a culturally-sensitive, neutral, non-judgmental, unbiased view of course). Seems safe, though, for the most part. No matter, we've been practicing our mad Kung Fu skills picked up just being in China. Also a lot of tooktooks, like India, but much newer.
Phuket: parasailing, jetskiing, elephant trek through the jungle among large spiders & rubber trees, bustling markets, tailor-made suit from one of the little shops (all for a killer price). Tourist location that reminded me of Southern California.
Krabi: rented scooters and drove across the countryside on the left side of the road to a reclining Buddha then to the base of a large, plush, monkey-filled, rocky hill where we hiked up 12,000+ steps (some of which were steeeep) to a mountaintop monastery, rented one of the many somewhat unsturdy long-tail boats and driver to shuttle us between surrounding islands where we snorkeled and explored, tsunami damage. We now claim to be Salty Sailor Vets after the intense journey in which that riverboat was tossed about on the open seas going to Phi Phi.
