Some of us took an afternoon ferry trip to the Indonesian island of Batam where we chatted with locals, ate Indonesian food, and shopped. A blues/jazz band from Jakarta played in the hotel and did a great job on my requested Norah Jones while we played pool. Beautiful green islands, but the rain was especially intense that night. We heard it could be a dangerous place, so we didn't wander around outside the resort. Luckily our hotel van, as the taxis aren't to be trusted, drove across the island to get there.
